KOCHI: The Aluva Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-I on Monday granted bail to Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan in the case related to his alleged inflammatory speech during a public meeting in Aluva. Vellappally, along with his son Tushar Vellappally, Advocate A N Rajan Babu, leader of JSS splinter faction with the UDF, and others, appeared before Aluva CI T B Vijayan by 10.30 am and deposed his statements before Aluva DySP P P Shams and CI Vijayan. Police recorded his arrest after he deposed his statement, which took about two hours.
“Vellappally Natesan told the officers that he did not intend to create any communal tension through his speech. We recorded his arrest and produced him before the Judicial First class Magistrate court, after conducting a medical examination”, said Aluva DySP P P Shams. Considering the case, the court granted bail upon executing a bond of Rs 25,000 along with a solvent surety of two persons.
Earlier, the High Court had directed Vellappally Natesan to surrender before the investigating officer on or before January 12 in connection with the case. Speaking to mediapersons later, Vellappally said his speech was made with the good intention of ensuring justice to all. “KPCC president V M Sudheeran is using his political power to frame false cases with the intention of defaming me. Sudheeran has split the Congress into yet another group and this party will not survive under his leadership”, he added. Aluva police registered a case against the SNDP supremo under Section 153 (A) of IPC upon a compliant lodged by KPCC president V M Sudheeran.
The case followed his remarks on Noushad, who had died after inhaling toxic gas inside a manhole while trying to save two migrant labourers trapped in the manhole in Kozhikode.
In his speech, made as part of his ‘Samatwa Munntte Yathra’ in November 2015, Vellappally had alleged that the UDF government had awarded compensation to Noushad for appeasing a ‘particular community’.
