Chandy Writes to Sushma

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has written a letter to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to take steps to bring back the Keralites trapped in Indonesia after they were cheated by agents.

In the letter, he asked the Centre to take immediate steps to bring back the 40 stranded Keralites.

‘Express’ had on Wednesday brought to light the plight of the stranded Malayalis. Around 50 Indians, including 40 Keralites, were trapped in Indonesia after being duped by agents back home by collecting money from them in the name of job offers in Canada and South Korea. In some cases, the agents collected about `3.5 lakh from job aspirants. Many of the stranded are living in hiding as they have exceeded legally permissible duration of 30 days.
