Man held for shooting migrant with air gun

KOCHI: In a bizarre incident, a migrant worker was shot at with an air gun at his workplace at Civil Station Road, Aluva, on Sunday.

The police have arrested Vijay, 30, of Vijaya Mandiram in connection with the incident. A case of murder attempt has been registered against him.

The victim, 40-year-old Sheikh Mainul, a native of Murshidabad in West Bengal, was engaged in renovation work at the residence of the accused when he was attacked. Mainul, who sustained injuries on his back, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

He was employed by Edathala-native Siju, who was given contract for the work by Vijay’s father Dr Balakrishnan.

“The shot was fired from a licensed air gun owned by the family,” said the police.

According to hospital authorities, the bullet was removed from the victim’s body, and his condition is stable. He has been kept under observation for 24 hours.

It is learnt that in the past, Vijay had created scare among local residents by wielding gun.
