Brucellosis-infected cattle to be euthanised in Palakkad

THRISSUR: The meeting of an expert team headed by the Registrar Dr Joseph Mathew at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University (KVASU) Mannuthy Centre on Sunday decided to euthanise the Brucellosis-infected cattle at the Thiruvazhmkunnu in Palakkad by giving anesthetic.

The euthanasia process will follow the standard protocol provided by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI). The corpses of the 84 cattle will be buried in a deep pit at  Thiruvazhmkunnu. The process will be completed within two weeks, sources said. The Animal welfare boards of the Centre and state governments have given permission to cull the cattle.

The meeting of the expert team also evaluated that the situation was under control. Earlier, the move to transport the cattle to the culling unit at the Mannuthi in Thrissur had kicked up a controversy.
