KANNUR: In yet another act of moral policing, a Scheduled Tribe student  was abducted and beaten up by a five-member gang for speaking to a Muslim girl at Taliparamba.

On Wednesday, three suspects were taken into custody, a day after 19-year-old Laljith of Alakode was abducted and assaulted.

The first year History UG student of Sir Syed college in Taliparamba had been absent from class for a few days. He met his friend and college mate at the bus stop near Manna.

While they were talking, a five-member gang--Thahr of Moideenpalli, Thahr of Farooq Nagar, Majeed of Alakulam and two others--accosted them.

They questioned him for talking to the girl and left only to return with a car. They pulled him into the vehicle and took him to a ground near Alakulam where Laljith was assaulted with sticks. They wanted to know why he had spoken with a Muslim girl.
