Jishnu Prannoy case: Police deny allegations of high-handedness during Mahija's protest

The police on Monday submitted a report before the SHRC denying allegations of high-handedness while dealing with the protest held by Mahija, mother of Jishnu who committed suicide.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police on Monday submitted a report before the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) denying allegations of high-handedness while dealing with the protest held by Mahija, mother of engineering student Jishnu Prannoy who committed suicide, and her relatives in front of the Police Headquarters on April 5.

Museum sub-inspector G Sunil submitted before the SHRC he did not touch Mahija and it was a few woman civil police officers who took Mahija and others to the police van amidst the ruckus.

“I did not torture Mahija. The woman police officers took them away. Moreover, I had met Mahija and her brother Sreejith in the morning and advised them to stay away from the protest. I also promised to arrange a meeting with the DGP. But they refused to accept my request and reached the spot for protest”, Sunil said in the report.

The commission will also send a reminder to DGP Loknath Behera soon seeking a comprehensive report on the incident.

“Earlier, the commission had directed the DGP and the district police chief to file a report. However, they did not submit the report. Hence we will send a reminder directing to file the report at the next sitting which will be held in the first week of May”, said an officer.
