No to third  degree torture

“The goverment’s police policy is people-friendly. There will be zero tolerance on third degree torture methods by police. Custodial deaths will not be accepted at any cost. If anything happens, punitive action will be taken against those responsible,” he warned officers.

Attempts are also being made to stoke communal tension in certain parts. Police should keep a high vigil and maintain its secular fabric. It should take an impartial stand on political violence,” he said.

‘Respect complainants’

“The officers should respect people who come to police stations with complaints. At the same time, officers should not espouse favouritism or give in to enticements. They should act tough against criminals,” he said.

‘Special team to probe child missing cases’

The Chief Minister said in the wake of rising crimes against women and children, the government was planning to constitute a special team to investigate child missing cases. “Elderly people are also facing violence. The police are responsible for their protection,” he said.

Ending social evils

“Strong measures are needed to tackle the menace of drugs, illicit liquor, cyber crime and ‘quotation’ gangs in the state,” Pinarayi said.

With regard to slapping of Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA), the Chief Minister said the government was not in favour of its use in political cases.
