SWC to take suo motu case against Kerala Electricity Minister Mani

Commission member J Prameela Devi, who visited Munnar, directed the Idukki SP to register a case against Mani for his remarks against Pembilai Orumai workers.

IDUKKI: The State Women’s Commission on Monday decided to take a suo motu case against Electricity Minister M M Mani. The Commission member J Prameela Devi, who visited Munnar, directed the Idukki SP to register a case against Mani for his remarks against Pembilai Orumai workers.

Prameela Devi said the minister’s remarks were improper. Despite the Opposition parties and Orumai leaders demanding his resignation, Mani remained adamant and ruled out stepping down.

“I didn’t make any anti-woman statement. I will not apologise to Pembilai Orumai protesters. Let them continue their protest. Those who brought them for protests shall tender apology and call them back,” he told reporters at his residence in Kunchithanni, here.

Mani also expressed his displeasure over the stance taken by CPI Idukki unit. “I have given an explanation to my party. I didn’t tell anything about CPI. However, the CPI local leadership is trying to dishonour the Chief Minister and myself. This is against coalition principles,” he said.

Mani said he would act according to the party decision.
