IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty quits as MLA

IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty on Tuesday evening resigned from the membership of the Assembly.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty on Tuesday evening resigned from the membership of the Assembly. He submitted his resignation to Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan in the presence of party MLAs. Kunhalikutty, who represented Vengara, put in his papers after attending the UDF leaders’ meet.

He did not attend the Assembly session. Kunhalikutty was elected to the Lok Sabha with a thumping majority in a recent bypoll from the Malappuram segment, necessitated by the demise of  E Ahamed.

The UDF meet has elected M K Muneer as the Opposition Deputy Leader, a post adorned by Kunhalikutty in his capacity as legislature party leader. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala said a letter in this regard has been forwarded to the Speaker. Muneer is a former minister and son of former chief minister, the late C H Mohammed Koya.
