IDUKKI: Even as the killer online game ‘Blue Whale Challenge’ sent panic across the state, police on Friday registered a case against a youth hailing from Murickasseri in Idukki, for promoting the game through Facebook. The police said Jaisal Francis alias Charly,22, of Urulichalil, Murickassery, was charged with section 67 (punishment for publishing or obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act 2000.

Murickasseri SI M V Paulose said Jaisal, a painter by profession, posted on his FB wall he had completed up to four tasks of the game. “In fact, it was a false claim and he did not even play the game. However, his post is likely to motivate youth to play the game,” he said. Noticing some behavioral changes in Jaisal, police sent him along with his father and a relative to a hospital for psychiatric treatment, Paulose said.
