KOTTAYAM: In a fresh development in the Hadiya case, Ashokan, father of Akhila (Hadiya), on Tuesday filed a complaint with the Vaikom police against activist Rahul Easwar for recording a video and taking photos of Akhila and mother Ponnamma at their residence.

However, the police are confused about what action should be taken based on the complaint as the video and photographs were taken after seeking permission from the family members. The police have sought legal opinion of the public prosecutor on registering a case and conducting a probe into the matter.

“We have received a complaint. However, we could not find any offence prima facie as the complainant himself had admitted that the photographs were taken with his knowledge. We will move ahead on the basis of legal opinion,” said Vaikom DySP K Subhash.   Ashokan told ‘Express’ that Rahul, who arrived at the house offering help, was indeed deceiving them. “Rahul had come to our house three times after Akhila came back here offering to save us from the crisis.

Last time, he contacted me on mobile soon after the Supreme Court ordered an NIA probe into the case and said he’d be coming to our house to set everything right. I was not in the room while he was speaking to Akhila and my wife. He recorded all the things and, later, asked me to pose for a selfie.  Meanwhile, Rahul dismissed the allegation and said he welcomed any investigation into the matter. “I totally welcome the complaint. The police should inquire whether there was any pressure behind the complaint. I have videographic evidence of them giving me permission,” he said.
