MALAPPURAM : In a shocking incident, Shashi, a 46-year-old man from Peruvallur surrendered before the Thenhippalam police after murdering his daughter.Shalu, 18, was strangulated by her father at Peruvallur near Thenhippalam in the district on Wednesday night. According to the police, Shashi killed Shalu alleging she always sided with her mother in the arguments between the parents. 

Shashi arrived at the police station by 7 am after committing the crime. Police said he strangulated Shalu using a bath towel on Wednesday midnight and spent the whole night beside her body. The incident happened at their rented quarters at Peruvallur. Shalu’s mother Shylaja had gone to her relatives’ house in Perinthalmanna when Shashi committed the crime.

Shashi’s arrest was recorded and he was produced before the Parappanangadi First Class Judicial Magistrate Court on Thursday. Tirurangadi SI E Sunil Kumar, who is heading the probe, said Shashi’s suspicion about his wife’s illicit relations led to frequent verbal quarrels between the two. During the quarrels, Shalu always sided with her mother. This prompted Shashi to kill his daughter, he said.
