Projects will be launched to make state disabled-friendly, says Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan

The government will work out projects to transform Kerala into a disabled-friendly state, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

KOZHIKODE: The government will work out projects to transform Kerala into a disabled-friendly state, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said. He was speaking at the mega camp organised by the district administration to distribute medical and legal guardianship certificates to disabled people at the JDT Islam Auditorium at Vellimadukunnu here.  

He said the problems related to disabled people are numerous and they must be addressed. The Chief Minister said the government is considerate on addressing the issues of the disabled and is planning to allow reservations for them - five percent for education and four percent for job. He added the government is working on projects worth `250 crore of both the state and Central governments for their uplift. The Chief Minister said special arrangements would be made in government offices to make them accessible to disabled people.

Facilities such as ramp, lift, wheelchair and special toilets will be set up at every government offices in the state. Even special parking spaces will be allotted for them, said the Chief Minister.    About 2,404 medical and 747 legal guardianship certificates were distributed at the function organised by the district administration as par of the ‘Kaiyethum Dhoorath’ project. The eligible candidates for the certificates were identified through 32 camps held at the taluk-level. The function presided over by Excise and Labour Minister T P Ramakrishnan was attended by Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, A Pradeep Kumar MLA, elected representatives and officials.
