KOZHIKODE: Janata Dal (Secular) has not had a formal discussion with senior politician M P Veerendra Kumar on the latter joining the party, cutting his ties with Janata Dal (United), said party national secretary general Kunwar Danish Ali. He was speaking to reporters after the state committee meeting of the youth forum of the party.

He said Veerendra Kumar has expressed his dissatisfaction and disagreements with his present party and ally and had communicated with the senior leaders of the party in the state regarding his interest to join the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala. But he confirmed, as of now, they have not had any formal discussions with Veerendra Kumar. “He is a very senior leader. We welcome his decision to join the LDF. If he is willing to join us, we will always open our doors for him. But he has to make an initiation for that,” said Ali.

He emphasised the importance of strengthening the LDF to fight communal forces. The party has directed the youth forum to take out campaigns and conduct conventions at local and constituency level to attract more youth to the party. “We will conducting a state-level convention of youth members of the party on February 25 at Ernakulam,” he said.

Kunwar lambasted the Congress for its failure in resisting the BJP and thriving communalism in the country. He criticised the Congress for its soft Hindutva nature. He said Janata Dal (S) will play a major role in bringing the socialist and leftist parties to a common and broad platform to resist the BJP and communal forces in the country.
