Collector orders demolition of illegal construction by company linked to Anvar

After months-long dilly-dallying, District Collector Amit Meena on Monday ordered demolition of the illegal construction carried out by a company partly owned by P V Anvar MLA at Kakkadampoyil.

MALAPPURAM: After months-long dilly-dallying, District Collector Amit Meena on Monday ordered demolition of the illegal construction carried out by a company partly owned by P V Anvar MLA at Kakkadampoyil. The Collector, while issuing the order, asked the owners to demolish the illegal construction within two weeks. The Collector also asked the Irrigation Department Executive Engineer to remove the illegal construction if the owners failed to act in accordance with the order.

District Disaster Management Authority Deputy Collector C Abdul Rasheed said a notice was sent to Vettilappara village office in Oorngattiri panchayat. “The village office authorities will soon serve a notice on the owners,” Rasheed said. The action follows a report submitted by Perinthalmanna Revenue Divisional Officer K Ajeesh on Friday. The report was submitted after a joint inspection carried out by the officers of Geology and Revenue Departments, Kerala Water Authority and Public Works Department at Kakkadampoyil, where a water theme park, mini dam and road were illegally constructed by the company. The team found the constructions were illegal and unscientific which may lead to natural disasters.

The inspection was conducted on October 24 following an order issued by District Collector Amit Meena, who found the earlier reports unsatisfactory. Apart from Ajeesh, the team included district geologist Ibrahim Kutty, soil conservator Mariyamma K George, KWA Executive Engineer M Usman and officers of Forest Department. The report was finalised after a meeting of the officers of various departments convened by the RDO on December 4.

In March 2017, the District Collector had ordered demolition of the mini dam and asked the Revenue Department officers to assess the possibility of demolishing the building. Despite a demolition order issued by the district administration, the park owners went ahead with the mini dam work and set up a boating centre. The works were done neglecting a report by  former Divisional Forest Officer warning landslides and threat to residents in surrounding areas.A report by Nilambur North DFO Adal Arasan had confirmed rule violations in the ecologically fragile area.
