KOCHI: Omani coach Sanad Al Rawahi, who trains racing prodigy Shonal this season, feels his ward is a quick learner.“Shonal is a good listener and fast learner. If he can keep up the good work, he can go places,” said Al Rawahi.Shonal,a big fan of German legend Michael Schumacher, is staying focused.
“I love taking the kart around the corners and fast lanes. When not on the circuit, I try to watch Schumi’s races,” said Shonal in broken Malayalam.

Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India president Akbar Ebrahim said not many Indian drivers compete in the bambino class of Rotax events. “I’m not aware of many Indians driving in this age group. We conduct Rotax championship in India as well, but races start from the Micro Max category (8-11 years),” said Ebrahim.

Seasoned rallyist Abhilash P G said, “It is really an achievement for someone from Kerala, especially when it’s in the UAE, where kids of various nationalities engage in fierce competition,” said Abhilash.
The next rounds of the challenge will begin from February 9 at the Muscat Speedway and Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi with the grand finale scheduled for April 6 at Al Ain.
