KSEB to replace 14 lakh meters in 2017-18

In all, the KSEB plans to replace 14,01,545 meters across 25 electrical circles in the state, according to the annual plan targets for the new financial year.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: THE Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) plans to replace over 14 lakh electricity meters in the 2017-18 financial year.

In all, the KSEB plans to replace 14,01,545 meters across 25 electrical circles in the state, according to the annual plan targets for the new financial year.

As many as 3.68 lakh meters will be replaced in the southern region which include Thiruvananthapuram urban and Thiruvananthapuram rural, Kollam,  Kottarakkara, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Pala.
In all, 4.28 lakh meters will be replaced in the seven electrical circles in the Central region.

As many as 3.63 lakh meters will be replaced over the period in the northern region and 2.40 lakh in the north Malabar region, according to the annual plan targets.

Faulty meters have for long given the government power company a headache.

In November, the KSEB had announced that it had taken steps to purchase 16 lakh single phase meters and 1.5 lakh three phase energy meters.

The replacement of the meters is part of major works included in the power distribution component for the new fiscal. KSEB has earmarked, in all, Rs 750 crore for power distribution.
