THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A preliminary inquiry conducted by the Revenue Department is said to have revealed irregularities in the utilisation of land assigned for the Kerala Law Academy.

A team comprising an additional tahsildar of Survey Department, a village officer and Revenue/Survey department officers on Thursday inspected the land. They are learnt to have found that the land was being used for purposes other than education for which it has been allotted. Moreover, they have come across illegal constructions on the premises.

The team is said to have found substance in the allegations raised by political leaders, including veteran CPM leader V S Achuthanandan.

Highly placed sources in the Revenue Department said that a teal of Revenue officers led by a tahsildar would inspect the land on Friday. They would demarcate the land and verifying the allegations of irregularities.

Revenue Minister E Chandrashekaran ordered an inquiry into the land utilisation by Kerala Law Academy based on a letter from CPM veteran leader V S Achuthanandan.

The team would also probe the construction and sale of flats on the land allotted to a society formed by the academy at Punnen Road near the Secretariat.  In his letter to the revenue minister, Achuthanandan urged to take over the land which is being used for purposes other than what it is meant for, along with its establishments.
