Principal of Kerala-based college sacked for alleged sexist comments

The management was forced to oust him as student organisations agitated, demanding his resignation, for the last few days.

THRISSUR: In yet another case of student harassment in the State, a head of the institution was removed from the post on Friday. The decision to remove R U Muhammad Salim, principal-in-charge of Mother College, Peruvallur, who is facing allegations of using sexist comments against girl students, was announced in a meeting of representatives of students, parents, teachers, police and management. 

The management was forced to oust him as student organisations agitated, demanding his resignation, for the last few days.

Students withdrew their agitation after the management handed over a copy of the order which said  the principal’s charge was given to vice principal, Mini CG.

Guruvayoor police have also registered a case against Muhammad Salim,under IPC session 509-
outraging the modesty of women.

In the meeting, students alleged that more than 100 cameras are placed in college and hostel.  According to the management, the cameras are placed to ensure security on the campus with nearly 400 students

“A panel was formed to check the cameras and this panel will inspect cameras on February 20. Two members each from teachers, PTA  members and students and one police officer would be there in the panel. If any camera is encroaching into the privacy of students then it will be removed,” said E Balakrishnan, Guruvayoor.

Students said they face a fine of Rs5,000 for using mobile phones. However, the management's explanation is that fine ranging Rs 1,000 to 1,500 was charged. In the meeting it was decided that mobile phones should be kept switched off on the campus.

On Friday, SFI, KSU and AISF conducted a march to the college.
