THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state police have launched a major crackdown on the goons and anti-socials after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the State police chief Loknath Behera to submit a detailed report within 30 days.

Additional director-general of police (Intelligence) Mohammed Yasin handed over the list of 2010 history-sheeters in the State to the three range inspector generals, district police chiefs and district collectors. The list also included the number of notorious criminal gangs operating in various districts. The CM decided to speed up the action against the goons in the wake of the recent incident of abduction and molestation of an actor in Kochi.

As per the list, Alappuzha district tops the list of goons with 336 followed by Kannur district while Thiruvananthapuram city has 236 goons. Surprisingly, according to the list, there are only 85 goons in Kochi. The statistics in Kannur indicates the criminal activities which have been committed under the political unrest, sources said.

The list was prepared after a detailed study on the criminals across the State which included murder convicts or members of gangs that are into robbery, rape, illegal money lending and narcotic activities. The district police chiefs and IGs have been directed to arrest the criminals based on the list under Kerala Antisocial Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA).

As part of this, the district collectors have also been directed to order preventive detention against the criminals based on the police report.
