THRISSUR: The Festival Coordination Committee has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district on Thursday as a protest against the regulations placed on the poorams, connected to the annual temple festival.

The committee is demanding the withdrawal of restrictions placed on fireworks and parading elephants.

As part of protest committee members will stage a sit-in in front of residences of three ministers from the district.

The committee has announced in a statement that they will parade elephants as part of the pooram, even if the restrictions are not withdrawn.

The Congress and BJP have extended their support to the committee’s decision to call hartal.

The committee members will stage indefinite protest in front of the houses of the three ministers from the district if they cannot conduct the Uthralikkavu Pooram on February 28.

On February 17, District Collector A Kausigan had convened an all-party meet to discuss the issues related to the conduct of festivals.
