THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM politburo on Thursday discussed the tactical and political line to be adopted during the impending Assembly polls at five states. The three-day Central Committee meeting here from Friday is likely to discuss key Kerala issues, including the PB Commission report in VS Achuthanandan issue.

The one-day PB meet led by general secretary Sitaram Yechury at the AKG Centre concluded around 8 pm. Later, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vinayan hosted a dinner for the PB members.
The PB meet is learnt to have discussed the national political scenario along with other issues, including agitation in demonetisation issue. In Uttar Pradesh, the CPM is keen to keep BJP away from power and hence would be taking a stance accordingly during the polls. The PB also finalised the agenda for the CC meeting. Kerala related issues, including nepotism charges against EP Jayarajan and PK Sreemathy may come up before the CC.

Politburo is learnt to have looked into the issues surrounding Achuthanandan. PB meet last November had kept the issue for this time. The PB Commission had looked into party state leadership’s chargesheet against the veteran in connection with the Alappuzha conference along with Achuthanandan’s complaints against the leadership.

Achuthanandan’s demand that he should be included in the state secretariat is currently before the party. It’s pointed out that the party may term VS walking out of the Alappuzha conference wrong, but may not take action against him. In that case, he’s likely to be included in the state committee.
VS letter to leadership

VS approached the party leadership again pointing at the need to strengthen the party organisation. Stating the need for national level agitations, he said the party is weak at many parts and there’s an urgent need to take up people’s issues. Sources said VS gave a letter in this regard to leadership which was handed over by his son Arun Kumar on Thursday morning.
Sources said Achuthanandan is coming up with suggestions to strengthen the party by pointing out certain lapses from the part of the government.
