THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a sharp reply to Muslim League that had alleged Muslim hunt by the government, CM Pinarayi Vijayan said political parties, including IUML and secular-minded minority outfits, should come forward to oppose terrorism.
While making clear that there won’t be harassment towards minorities just because they are minorities, Pinarayi categorically stated that there won’t be any compromise towards terrorism. Addressing the public convention as part of the ongoing CPM central committee meet here on Saturday, Pinarayi alleged that the League has been trying to mislead people.
“There’s a deliberate attempt to mislead people by terming a lamb a dog. Minorities should not pay heed to the campaign,” he said. In an apparent reference to Peace International school but without naming it, the CM said syllabus about how to convert should not be allowed.
Responding to allegations in a strongly-worded speech, Pinarayi said the Home Secretary has been asked to examine the apprehension raised by the Muslim League about action against the school. If there is any action by the police exceeding the limit, it would be examined. Though there’s nothing wrong in having religious teachings in the syllabus, how to convert should not be there.
Any wrongful action by police officials regarding UAPA will be corrected, said the Chief Minister. Refuting the allegations in this regard, Pinarayi said earlier the UAPA used to be widely misused. The Left is of the view that the Act should not be unnecessarily imposed. But in terror-related cases, it has to be imposed.
“The DGP has been asked to examine and file time-bound report on all UAPA cases.
At least in some cases where UAPA was imposed, government feels that it should not have been done,” Vijayan said. Pinarayi said the RSS has been teaching how to silently kill the people. The CM accused the RSS of carrying out attacks across the state and then unleashing a propaganda.
Stating that law will take its own course, the CM said action would be taken irrespective of their affiliations. There won’t be any special consideration to anyone, he said.
