‘Coastal, highway projects to end during LDF Govt tenure’

The decision on constructing the hill highway and the coastal highway was taken during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister held in August last year .

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of improving the basic infrastructure of the state, the government will take steps to complete the coastal highway and hill highway projects during the tenure of the present LDF Government itself, said Public Works Minister G Sudhakaran after receiving the report prepared by Natpac on coastal and hill highways.

The decision on constructing the hill highway and the coastal highway was taken during a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister held in August last year .

The length of the coastal highway and the hill highway is 650 km and 1,267 km respectively. Natpac was entrusted with conducting a study on the technical, economic  and environmental aspects of the project.

Two committees have been formed for both highways. PWD Additional Chief Secretary Subrata Biswas will be the chairman of the hill highway committee and PWD Chief Engineer (Roads and Bridges) will be its convener. The PWD Chief Engineer (NH) will be the convener of  the coastal highway.
