KANNUR: A BJP activist was hacked to death by assailants who entered the house by breaking the doors at Andaloor in Dharmadam in Thalassery, on Wednesday night.

According to police, 52 year old Santhosh was killed by the assailants. The victim was alone in the house when the attack was carried out. His wife Baby and daughter Sarang were at his wife's hosue in Mithalaey Peedika.

Ironically, his friends knew about the attack when they were alerted by Santhosh, who called them for help.

Later, the police and friends rushed him to the hospital. However, due to excess loss of blood, he succumbed to injuries.

BJP alleged the role of CPM behind the attack, and has called for a dawn to dusk hartal in the district. Considering the ongoing State Youth Festival, essential services to the event has been excluded from the hartal.

The fatal attack took place two days after the RSS-BJP gang allegedly carried out an attack against a tour guide and students of Brennen college, who had arrived after a tour on Tuesday. There has been a stand off between ABVP and SFI for sometime in the college, and it is believed that the attack on BJP could have been carried due to the on going stand off.

Police force has camped in the area to prevent any further issues. Meanwhile, a bomb was also hurled at the RSS office and Vivekananda karyalam at Trichambaram in Taliparamba in the wee hours, but no one was injured in the incident.

The district administration has called for an all party meeting to bring peace in the district.
