Revised manual for Kerala school kalolsavam to come into play next year

KANNUR: Come 2018, the school kalolsavam will be held as per a revised manual. In an effort to address the practical difficulties and to make the organisation of the fest flawless, the Department of Education has initiated steps to revise the manual, which was last updated in 2008.

“Every year, there are fresh challenges. Though the manual has been revised from time to time, it was limited to adding or removing competition items. There has not been any major change in the rules and regulations,’’ Director of Public Instruction K V Mohan Kumar told ‘Express’.

He denied reports which said suggestions had been submitted to the government to conduct the fest in three zones before the state-level competition. ‘’We have just  initiated matters. Changes in the rules and regulations of the manual cannot be brought over night. It’s a fact there was a   suggestion in this regard at a meeting. But meetings have to be conducted with all stakeholders such as teachers’ organisations, veteran journalists and other experts,’’ he said.

‘’All prevailing issues such as abolishing appeals, restricting the number of candidates to a maximum 14 for an item, controlling expenses and grace marks and giving importance to writing competitions will be addressed and we expect the next edition of the Kalolsavam can be organised as per the revised manual,’’ said Mohan Kumar.
