KOZHIKODE: The police on Friday arrested a 40-year-old man from Koyilandy for allegedly molesting a UKG student. The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed by the parents of the victim with the Childline. The arrested has been identified as Shoukathali, a native of Atholi.

According to the police, the accused had clandestinely taken the girl standing in front of her school to a nearby under-construction building on January 11. The girl’s mother realised that something was wrong when the child screamed in pain while giving her a bath. The girl revealed the incident to her mother when questioned further.
The mother reported it to the Childline officials. On the basis of a complaint lodged by the Childline, police registered a case on January 15. The details provided by the girl led to the arrest of the 40-year-old hotel employee.

Koyilandy Circle Inspector Unnikrishnan K, who is investigating the case, said “the child has identified the accused’s photo. He will be produced before the court on Saturday.” A case has been registered under Sections 5 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code(IPC).
