Village assistant arrested while accepting bribe in Kodanchery

KOZHIKODE: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) arrested a village assistant while accepting illegal gratification to the tune of Rs 2,000 from a person for completing the mutation of a property.

P D Tomy (47), a village assistant with Kodanchery Village Office was arrested in a trap set by vigilance officials on Tuesday morning. He was arrested by a team led by Vigilance DySP Jossy Cherian on a complaint filed by KS Johnson, a native of Thamarassery.

According to officials, Johnson had approached the officer for the mutation of a property for which a few documents had to be forwarded to the tehsildar. Tomy allegedly demanded Rs 2000 as bribe from him for the completion of the task. On Tuesday morning, Johnson visited Tomy at his office and handed over the chemically treated currencies to him as directed by VACB officials and the sleuths who were waiting outside caught him red-handed.

A raid is being carried out by VACB officials at Tomy's residence at Adivaram.
