Rs 1.5 lakh aid handed to victim of endosulfan tragedy

KARADUKA, KASARGOD: The New Indian Express on Tuesday handed over a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh, donated by Kochi-based businessman V V Kasthurirangan and his sister V V Charumathi, to Vishnu Priya, a visually challenged girl and an endosulfan victim, who bagged first in the classical music competition held during the recently-concluded State School Arts Festival in Kannur.

Chief Reporter of ‘The New Indian Express’ Kozhikode Ajay Kanth presented the cheque to Priya in a function at VVHSS Karaduka, Kumbla. The headmaster of the school Karunakaran M, teachers Jyothi Chandran and Prasad K, PTA president Vijay Kumar, Principal Correspondent of The New Indian Express George Poikayil and reporter Kiran Murali were also present at the function.

Ardent music lovers, the siblings came forward to support the endosulfan victim, who hails from an economically backward family, after ‘Express’ published a report titled  “Finally, Vishnu Priya’s life hits the happy note”.

Priya’s father is bedridden, while her mother is also visually challenged. Kasthurirangan owns PBA Enterprises and is also a Mridangam artist.

Charumathi is a musician and a gold medallist in music from RLV College of Fine Arts. This is Kasthurirangan’s second donation to an Endosulfan victim.  Last year, he donated `1 lakh to Gopalakrishnan Nambiar from Badiadka, Kasargod.
