Hartal throws normal life out of gear in Idukki

IDUKKI: Sporadic incidents of violence marked the dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the Congress in Idukki on Friday. However, it was by and large peaceful and partial in high range areas.
When the clash between the police and agitators got out of control in Thodupuzha town, Circle Inspector N G Sreemon took out his gun and warned the protesters of stringent action.  


Hartal supporters blocked vehicles, including KSRTC buses, in various parts of the town and forced the shop owners, hoteliers, and offices to down shutters. The agitators pelted stones and destroyed boards of various shops. Media One cameraman was injured in stone pelting.  Private and KSRTC buses, taxis and other vehicles remained off the road and shops remained shut. Two-wheelers could be seen in large numbers.

Kottayam:
At least 10 people, were injured in a clash in connection with a student’s strike at IHRD College in Puthuppally on Friday. The BJP has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Puthuppally Assembly constituency on Saturday.
