KASARGOD: Five days since a 23-year-old woman left her parents allegedly to study Islam, police are yet to locate her. The family of Athira of Kaniyambadi in Udma had filed a missing persons complaint in Bekal police station on July 10, the investigating officers said.

The woman, a postgraduate, had left behind a 15-page letter in which she said the decision to learn Islam was her own and she will return after her studies. She also urged her parents to follow in her footsteps.

“The family members said Athira did not return after leaving home around 8.30 am on July 10 on the pretext of going to the hospital. She later telephoned her maternal uncle in Kozhikode and told him she had left to study Islam. After she hung up, the phone was not reachable, the cops said.
Bekal inspector Viswambaran Nair said the police believed she had not left the state.
