Kerala medical college scam; Chennithala demands CBI probe

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday demanded a CBI inquiry into allegations of BJP leaders accepting bribe for securing MCI nod to start medical colleges in the state.

THRISSUR: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday demanded a CBI inquiry into allegations of BJP leaders accepting bribe for securing MCI nod to start medical colleges in the state.
Comparing the allegations with the Madhya Pradesh Vyapam scam, Chennithala said the state government must initiate a CBI probe into the issue.

“The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau can take suo moto action on the serious allegations. Reports indicate involvement of national leaders too. A holistic inquiry is needed in this for which CBI intervention is necessary,” he said.He said last month, a BJP youth wing leader was arrested after fake currency notes and a note printing machine were seized from his house at Kodungallur.

“Using their influence on the Centre, BJP members from the state are indulging in large-scale corruption. The latest issue is just the tip of the iceberg. Only a proper inquiry will bring out the entire truth,” he said. Chennithala said though the matter of BJP leaders accepting bribe was conveyed to BJP state chief Kummanam Rajasekharan, no steps were taken.

‘Police raj should end’
On the suicide by a Dalit youth following police atrocity, Chennithala said the government should end ‘Police Raj’ in the state. “Cops involved in the incident should be removed from office. The government should also give `25 lakh to the youth’s family,” he said.
