Kerala VACB to probe medical college scam involving BJP leaders

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau will probe the medical college scam involving BJP leaders.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) will probe the medical college scam involving BJP leaders. The VACB director issued the order based on a complaint filed by Thiruvananthapuram corporation former councillor A J Sukarno of the CPM. Meanwhile, the party state leadership is on the defensive. Even while BJP leaders are trying to brush away the allegations, both the CPM and the Congress have cashed in on the opportunity and demanded a high-level probe into the allegations.

Faced with a first-of-its-kind major allegation, the BJP is struggling to address the issue. An internal probe report states the party’s cooperative cell convener got Rs 5 crore to influence the Medical Council of India. The RSS leadership has reportedly expressed unhappiness over the major allegation.

BJP state chief Kummanam Rajasekharan tried to brush away the reports as mere speculations. However he warned of strict action if any party leader is found to have indulged in corruption. Terming the media reports exaggerated, Kummanam said the party has no connection with the allegations coming up.

“The BJP is committed to eradicating corruption. That’s why action was taken immediately after allegations were raised. Further actions in this regard will be discussed in party forums. If any BJP leader is involved in corruption there will be strict action, no matter who,” Kummanam said in a statement.

Meanwhile senior leader V Muraleedharan made it clear the BJP will not tolerate corruption. He told reporters he’s not aware of any such report. “If there’s such a commission report it has to reach the party platform. If it’s submitted before the party president, he will bring it for talks,” he said.
