KOCHI: The condition of NCP state president Uzhavoor Vijayan, who is admitted to a hospital here for acute liver cirrhosis, continues to remain critical. According to hospital authorities, Vijayan’s condition is critical and he has been put on life support system.

Before being admitted to a private hospital in Kochi on July 11, Vijayan had undergone treatment at a hospital in Kottayam for a few days. He is diabetic and suffers from heart and kidney-related ailments, preventing doctors from performing angioplasty and dialysis.

“There has not been any considerable improvement in his condition, except a light improvement in blood pressure on Saturday evening. He is unconscious and admitted to ICU. “Since he suffers from various health problems and is physically weak, doctors are unable to perform procedures such angioplasty and dialysis,” hospital authorities said.  CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Minister Kadakampally Surendran visited Vijayan at the hospital.
