CBI arrests National Quality Monitor on bribe charges in Kochi

CBI said the monitor, who had to asses the quality of roads constructed, had demanded and received bribes from three contractors.

KOCHI: The CBI Anti Corruption Unit, Kochi on Thursday, arrested the national quality monitor of Pradhan Mantry Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for accepting bribe from road construction contractors.The arrested has been identified as Santhosh Kumar Dubey, a native of Madhya Pradesh.

The CBI also recovered Rs 2,44,930 from the accused. According to CBI, Dubey, who was in charge of Thrissur and Palakkad districts, had to assess the quality of road constructed as part of PMGSY, under National Rural Road Development Authority. He arrived at Palakkad on July 17 from New Delhi.

A CBI official said that they received information that Dubey demanded and received bribe from three contractors."He extorted money from contractors by threatening he will not clear the bills, if the bribe is not paid," the CBI official said. 

"On the basis of a tip-off, we caught him red handed from Palakkad. We would recommend an investigation into the wealth amassed by the official," the CBI official added.

Dubey would be produced before the court in Kochi by evening.
