Kerala Lalithakala Akademi awards announced

The winners will be awarded a cash prize of `50,000 along with a citation and a sculpture designed by artist Namboothiri.

KOCHI: The Kerala Lalithakala Akademi on Friday announced this year’s winners of the state awards for painting and sculptures. The awards were announced by Kerala Lalithakala Akademi chairman T A Satyapal at a function in Kochi.

The winners of the state award for paintings are: Sajith Puthukkalavattom for ‘Wings of Earthworms’; Sindhu Divakaran, of Angamaly and Jagesh Edakkad, of Kannur, for ‘Glance from the Past-7’.
Sajin S S, of Naloorvatom, Thiruvanthapuram, won the best sculpture award. The winners will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 along with a citation and a sculpture designed by artist Namboothiri.
The artists who secured Honourable Mention for paintings are: Shinoj Akaraparambil for ‘Realm of Infinite Space’, Dhanya N C for ‘Organic Sustenance’, Smitha Gini for ‘Neela’ and Gayathri for ‘The Magical World of Adoor’. Sree Kumar K Unnikrishnan won ‘Special Mention’ for his sculpture ‘Balloons’. The winners will be awarded a cash prize of `30,000.

The winners in the student category for paintings include Arun Ravi, from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Vivek Das M M, from Government College of Fine Arts, Thrissur, and Rinku P A, from RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithra. Helna Merin Joseph, from Raja Ravi Varma College of Fine Arts, and Shaan K R, from Government College of Fine Arts, Thrissur, won Special Mention for sculptures. The winners in the student category will be given `20,000.

Aravind K S won the Sankara Menon Endowment Gold Medal for Best Portrait Painting and Pradeep Prathap won the Vijayaraghavan Endowment Gold medal for Best Environmental painting. Aravind won the award for his work ‘I Can Feel the Nature’ and Pradeep Prathap for his untitled work.
Cultural Affairs Minister A K Balan will present the awards to the winners at a function to be held at 4 pm on August 19 at the Ernakulam Durbar hall. Asma Memon,  a jury member from Chennai, said a total of 243 entries were considered for the awards. Ramakrishna Vedala (Andhra Pradesh) and Yusuf (Madhya Pradesh) were the other jury members.
