Godman whose genitals were chopped off sent to Kerala police custody

The Thiruvananthapuram POCSO court on Thursday sent to police custody Gangeshananda Theerthapada alias Hari Swami whose genitals were chopped off by a woman while attempting to prevent sexual assault.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram POCSO court on Thursday sent to police custody Gangeshananda Theerthapada alias Hari Swami whose genitals were chopped off by a woman while attempting to prevent sexual assault.

The police custody was granted till Saturday after the doctors who are treating him stated before the court that he was capable of movement and travel. Issuing the order, the court also asked the investigator to ensure the swami gets the required medical aid. Hari Swami, who was undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital here after being remanded was discharged on Thursday.

The police had on Wednesday filed an application seeking Swami’s custody for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, in another related development, the court dismissed a plea filed by the defence counsel seeking to record the confidential statement of the mother and brother of the rape survivor. The plea was filed three days ago in the wake of news pertaining to a petition by the mother and brother before the state police chief. In the petition, they reportedly stated that the allegations of rape levelled against the Swami were false.
