PALAKKAD: The Sree Rama Vilasam (SRV) LP aided school in Shoranur had only one student in attendance on the Praveshanolsavom day. And a lone teacher too!
Teacher Rasheeda told Express the only student, Anela, is affected by cerebral palsy. Another student, Eihab, had not turned up, both being in Class II.
Dhanya Jason, Anela’s mother, told Express, “We are treating the child at the Institute of Communicative and Cognitive Neuro Sciences (ICCONS) in Shoranur. So, we have rented a house nearby. We were natives of Nilambur. My daughter secured good marks in Class I due to the care of the teacher and, now, she has been promoted.”
Till a few years ago, there was a large number of students till Class IV. In 2010, many students dropped out and teaching posts were abolished. Rasheeda, who had gone to the Block Resource Centre after the student strength declined, has come back to the school after a teacher retired.
This academic year, no new student enrolled at the school. In the past decade, the strength has not reached double digits.
Anela is the daughter of Jason Chacko and Dhanya while Eihab is the son of Fahad and Raseela, natives of Ongallur. They too had come here for the treatment of their son at ICCONS.
