THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Twenty-three differently abled children cast a spell on Vice President Hamid Ansari, Governor P Sathasivam and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at their first magic performance at the Tagore theatre here on Monday.

Named as brand ambassadors of ‘Anuyatra’, the children suffering from various challenges - including autism, cerebral palsy, depression and hyperactivity - were given special training in magic at the Thiruvananthapuram Magic Academy for three months sponsored by magician Gopinath Muthukad.
They were selected from various BUDS special schools and resource centres in the district.

Earlier, launching the ‘Anuyatra’ programme, Ansari said these differently abled children could be the best ambassadors for this innovative and ambitious campaign. ‘’There is little doubt these special children are capable of tremendous achievements with a little extra care and encouragement.

The use of magic to bring out their inherent talent is a creative way to convey to the world that they are not disabled or differently abled but are specially abled, and that given adequate support, they are capable of doing any wonder with pride and dignity. This is a unique initiative,’’ he said.

“I’m sure that with their unique talents and dedication, these special children will not only showcase the determination and triumph of human spirit but will also inspire many others to overcome challenges and realise their dreams,’’ he said.
