Government issues fresh order to transfer T P Senkumar’s gunman

DGP not given prior information, yet to respond; transfer due to complaints from headquarters

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ongoing rift between the government and state police chief T P Senkumar augmented with the former issuing a fresh order to take action on transferring his personal staff-cum-gunman ASI Anilkumar on Tuesday itself.

The government issued the order as a warning as the DGP did not take any action so far on the government’s order issued on May 30.

The government had earlier ordered that Anikumar be transferred to the Armed Reserve Camp office of the City Police Commissioner without the knowledge of Senkumar. Though Senkumar wrote to the government earlier seeking clarity on the transfer, the government did not respond to his query. Finally, the government came with the fresh order to take action on the transfer immediately. However, Senkumar is yet to respond to the government’s order.

Sources said the government had plans to appoint a personal staff to observe the DGP’s move till his service that is about to end on June 30. Anilkumar has been with Senkumar for 10 years and is considered a close aide of the latter. The state police chief was not given prior information about the transfer. The government explained that the ASI was transferred following complaints from other police officers in the police headquarters.

The government had the other day given nod to prosecute Senkumar based on a complaint filed by Public Grievance Cell AIG V Gopalakrishnan of the Police Headquarters. Gopalakrishnan stated that he was mentally tortured during his stint as DySP of Human Rights Commission way back in 2006 by Senkumar, who was the IG then. The complaint stated Senkumar had filed fake cases against Gopalakrishnan.
Senkumar was reinstated as the state police chief on May 7  following the Supreme Court’s order.
