CHENGANNUR: The local police have arraigned the husband and mother-in-law of a woman who was grievously injured after acid was thrown at her in an apparent case of harassment for dowry.
Binu Kumar,42, and his mother Saraswathi,69, Manumangalathu, Karakkad, Mulakkuzha were booked under the Dowry Prohibition Act and attempt to murder charge.
The case was registered on the direction of Punalur taluk hospital authorities. Punalur police had recorded the statement from Binu’s wife Dhanya,31, which was then forwarded to their Chengannur counterparts.
“Several injuries were found on the body of Dhanya.
It is suspected they were caused by an acid attack or a combination of chemicals. Petrol and vinegar traces had been detected in the chemical examination conducted by the police. The incident happened on June 6 at Karakkad,” officers said.
According to them, Binu and Saraswathi had gone underground in the incident’s aftermath. Meanwhile, Dhanya’s parents lodged a fresh complaint seeking to fast-track the investigation in the case.
