Spot-billed pelican found injured

A spot-billed pelican, found seriously injured in Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, was given emergency medical aid at the Government Veterinary Hospital here on Thursday.

KOTTAYAM:  A spot-billed pelican, found seriously injured in Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, was given emergency medical aid at the Government Veterinary Hospital here on Thursday. The bird which belongs to Indian migrant birds category was spotted by security personnel in the sanctuary with injuries on its wings.Soon, the Forest officers took the bird to the veterinary hospital here.

The condition of the bird is critical, said Dr P Ravindran, senior doctor at Government Veterinary hospital. “The injuries on its wings are serious and the bird is down with lack of food for a long time.

After a day’s medication and observation, we handed over the bird to the forest authorities,” he said. Deputy Forest Range Officer, Kumarakom, Vijaya Chandran told Express they have put the bird under observation and would provide maximum care.
