KOCHI: The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday granted permission to the investigation team to record the statement of fellow prisoner of Pulsar Suni aka Sunil Kumar, the first accused in the actor assault case, under Section 164 of CrPC.

The magistrate issued the order while allowing the petition filed by the investigation team and directed the police to produce Jinson, of Chalakkudy, before the Aluva Magistrate to record the statement.
The court also directed to submit the statement in sealed cover before the court where the case is pending.
The police have identified Jinson as the fellow prisoner of Suni, who is currently lodged in the Kakkanad District Jail. It is suspected Jinson had exposed a letter allegedly written by Suni claiming an actor-cum-director was behind the entire episode of alleged abduction and sexual harassment of the actress. Following this, the investigation team interrogated Jinson and decided to record his statement. The police said once the statement under Section 164 of CrPC was recorded the person could not backtrack from his earlier statements.
