Kerala Govt unveils Draft Labour Policy

The LDF Government on Wednesday rolled out the Draft Labour Policy for 2017, which calls for revamping the working hours,duration, wages and job safety to meet the present-day requirements.

The LDF Government on Wednesday rolled out the Draft Labour Policy for 2017, which calls for revamping the working hours, duration, wages and job safety to meet the present-day requirements. It is aimed at ensuring decent wages and social security to employees in all sectors.

Migrant workers:

Migrant labourers will have facilitation centres across the state. The policy promotes online payment of wages to Aadhaar linked bank accounts. The Labour Department intelligence cell will oversee the enforcement part.

Unorganised sector

The policy has provisions for ending exploitation of those working in the unorganised sector. More sectors will be brought under the minimum wages net and fair wages will be introduced in select sectors. The minimum wage has been set at Rs 600.

Woman-friendly measures

The policy advocates more woman-friendly measures. In the backdrop of rising number of female employees in the service sector,it is intended to ensure a woman-friendly work environment. This will help to establish the rights of woman staffers and ensure gender equality, according to the draft.

Young moms to benefit

The Labour Department will ensure maternity benefits for the woman employees. Besides,there will be specially designated areas in work places for feeding babies.

Creche cess: 

Creches at work places will be set up wherever possible and a creche cess will be introduced.Conveyance, overtime allowance, weekly off and breaktime will be ensured. A labour bank for housemaids will
be set up.
