Pressure from college management drove Jishnu to suicide: Prosecutor to Kerala HC

The special public prosecutor appearing in the case related to suicide of Jishnu Pranoy told the High Court the student committed suicide owing to pressure from the college management.

KOCHI: The special public prosecutor appearing in the case related to suicide of Jishnu Pranoy on Tuesday told the Kerala High Court the student committed suicide owing to pressure from the college management.

Opposing the bail plea filed by key accused Krishnadas, chairman of Nehru College of Educational and Charitable Trust, public prosecutor C P Udayabhanu said the accused might try to destroy evidence if released on bail.

“Students of the college have told the police Jishnu had shared with them details of  the assault by the PRO and vice-principal of the college. There is circumstantial evidence to prove Jishnu was taken to the boardroom and  assaulted physically and mentally, with active knowledge of the first accused. All those accused in the case destroyed/fabricated evidence to escape,” stated Udayabhanu.

“The accused deleted the CCTV footage and destroyed the hard disk and other electronic systems in the administrative block. They  also tried to cover up the crime by removing blood stains from the bathroom walls, besides making fake documents in the name of Jishnu,” stated the prosecution.

The court adjourned the anticipatory bail petition filed by Krishadas to Thursday for orders.

Earlier, Director General of Prosecution Sreedharan Nair informed the court the state government had entrusted Udayabhanu to represent it in the case.
