Kerala CM: True spiritual masters don’t market their powers

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said a spiritual person is referred to as ‘godman’ when he attempts to market his mystical powers.

KOCHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said a spiritual person is referred to as ‘godman’ when he attempts to market his mystical powers.  Most of the great persons who have acquired such powers will never try to market them, said Pinarayi after inaugurating the state’s first centre for high-precision radiation therapy at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences here on Saturday.

“Every human being is capable of developing mystical powers through practices, as Swami Vivekananda did, and scale great heights. Mata Amritanandamayi is such a person, whose virtues have been recognised all over the world,” said Pinarayi.

“A hospital becomes truly beneficial to the public when it provides treatment free of cost. Amrita Hospital provides free treatment to the poor, which should be emulated by other hospitals. I have heard that free treatment is provided at Sathya Sai Baba’s hospital, where doctors consider their work as charitable service,” he said.

The newly opened radiation therapy centre is equipped with advanced high-output CyberKnife and Tomotherapy systems - for quick and painless treatment of cancerous tumours.

Amrita radiation oncology head Dr Debnarayan Dutta, School of Medicine principal Dr Prathapan Nair, Mata Amritanandamayi Math general secretary Swami Purnamritananda Puri, Mayor Soumini Jain, Amrita medical director Dr Prem Nair, Corporation councillor Ambika Sudarsan and Amrita medical oncology head Dr K Pavithran were present.
