KOLLAM: In a significant breakthrough in the Kundara case in which a 10-year-old girl was found dead after being sexually assaulted in January, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiring into the crime has concluded the grandfather as the key accused, said sources.

However, the SIT has not confirmed anything in this regard openly.

According to sources, the arrest of the girl's grandfather will be registered by the team soon.

"The delay in registering his arrest is mainly due to the difference of opinion between the Kollam superintendent of police (Rural) S Surendran and Kottarakkara deputy superintendent Krishnakumar," said the sources.

While the SP is pitching for the arrest of the grandfather, the DySP is said to be demanding more time as evidences, he argued, are not strong against the accused.

Reportedly, the mother of the girl, who was not cooperating with the investigation, was counseled by an expert.

On Saturday, the SIT had approached the Kollam District and Sessions Court with the request to conduct a lie detection test on both mother and grandfather of the girl. The court, while sending a summons to both, had asked them to present themselves at the court on Monday.
