Minor victim's grandmother to be arrested in Kundara sexual assault case

Meanwhile, sources in the SIT said that during her session with clinical psychologists, the victim’s elder sister had disclosed that she was present when her sister was writing the suicide note.

KOLLAM: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the case of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl at Kundara is set to record the arrest of the victim’s grandmother on Saturday. The SIT is said to have come to the inference that the woman was aware of the crime committed by her husband and didn’t take any initiative to prevent it. The SIT has also found she knew about the sexual assault carried out by her husband against another minor girl.

“The grandmother will be charged in two cases. One will be the alleged suicide of the 10-year-old girl and the other the sexual assault against another minor. The woman is now undergoing treatment at a hospital and has been kept under  surveillance. A report in this regard has been submitted to the Kollam District and Sessions Court by the investigation officer Kottarakkara DySP B Krishnakumar on Friday,” said a source.

It is also learnt during the session with clinical psychologists the elder sister of the victim had made some startling revelations, including that she was present at the spot when her sister was writing the suicide note. The girl is also said to have revealed she was asked to frame her father for sexually assaulting her.

Clinical psychologists

“The role of clinical psychologists in decoding this case is invaluable. The elder sister of the victim, her mother and her grandmother were in some kind of fear as they didn’t initially cooperate with the investigation. But after repeated sessions the psychologists gained their confidence. The most helpful information came from the elder sister. She said her grandfather had mentally and physically tortured her to name her father for sexually assaulting her. The girl also said she was an eyewitness to her sister writing the suicide note,” added the source. When asked whether the 10-year-old girl wrote the suicide note under the directive of someone, the source evaded the question, saying it might affect the investigation.

Neighbour’s death

Regarding the unnatural death of a 14-year-old boy, who was a neighbour of the accused, the SIT has started exploring the possibilities of conducting a narco analysis test on the accused and his son. The boy was found dead in his house in 2010. His family members had alleged the Kundara police was dragging its feet in the investigation. They blamed the accused of the sexual assault case and his son for the death. The police recently reopened the case.
