ALAPPUZHA: Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan on Friday said removing the encroachments from Munnar was the state government’s policy and the government would take steps in this regard after receiving a report on the encroachments.

He was talking to reporters at Alappuzha on the sidelines of a seminar organised to mark the 40th death anniversary of T V Thomas, the state’s first Industries Minister.

“There is no differences of opinion among ministers or parties regarding the anti-encroachment drive. The ‘differences’ have been created by the media,” he said.

At the seminar, Chandrasekharan said the government would take steps to settle the problems of all landless people in the state.

“The state has around 4 lakh landless families. The government has been processing the documents to allot them land,” he said. On potable water shortage, he said numerous projects had been implemented to tackle this. He also said the problem of waste in the state should be addressed and the health sector needed to be improved.

“The government has also been implementing projects for human resources development. Moreover, the land reform act implemented by the first LDF Government is a model to the world,” said
Chandrasekharan, who praised T V Thomas for his ‘remarkable contributions’ in ensuring industrial growth in the state.

CPI district secretary T J Anjalose presided over the function. Civil Supplies Minister P Thilothaman also spoke.
