KALPETTA:In a major breakthrough in the sexual assault case involving minor girls of an orphanage in Kalpetta, the victims have identified all the six accused in an identification parade conducted at Vythiri sub-jail. The accused have been identified as Muhammed Rafi (27), N Mustafa (27), Jumaid A (27), N Azhar (27), V P Nazar (42) and Sajadan Julaib (27), all hailing from Kuttamangalam near Kalpetta in Wayanad district.

Though the police had nabbed all the accused two days after the incident came to light on March 6, police refused to reveal the names of the arrested persons as the identification parade was pending. Meanwhile, the police have filed a petition in the Kalpetta Additional District and Sessions Court seeking custody of all the accused for detailed interrogation. Kalpetta Circle Inspector T P Jacob said the police are examining the mobile phones seized from the accused.
Police said the assailants targeted the girls repeatedly over two months after blackmailing them using mobile phone footage of the abuse. The girls were first lured with sweets while returning from school by the accused who were running a shop near the orphanage.  The incident unfolded when the security guard of the orphanage found a girl coming out of the shop under suspicious circumstances.
